1. Introduction

Specification point:

i) Explain the need for internal and removable storage

ii) Describe common storage technologies such as optical, magnetic and solid state drives

iii) Select suitable storage devices and storage media for a given application and justify their choice using characteristics such as capacity, speed, portability, durability and reliability.

 

 

Any device which is used to store data is known as a 'storage device'. There are a number of different storage devices, each with their own purpose and use. We will examine each of them in turn over the next few pages.
