2. Faster CPU

CPUs produced by the same manufacturer can often be swapped out for greater performance.

There are only a handful of companies who design and produce CPUs. This is because it is an expensive process, needing specialist knowledge and equipment.

Because production is so specialised, CPUs from different manufacturers are not interchangable.

Instead, each company produces a 'family' of CPUs tailored to different price points.

As a general point, the better the performance of a CPU, the more expensive it is likely to be. See the chart below:

To improve performance of a computer system, it may be possible to change the CPU so long as it is from the same 'family'.
