Introduction to queries

This workbook assumes that student know how to set up a simple one table database in Access.

They are then taken step by step through creating different types of query.

Students can work at their own pace by following the instructions given in the workbook.

Access Walkthrough (2003) 3-4 lessons

This is a walkthrough that will take students right from the basics of creating a database

  • creating fields
  • choosing datatypes
  • choosing field sizes
  • creating drop down boxes
  • using validation
  • writing queries
  • writing reports
  • creating mail merged letters.

The theme is based on a fashion show. It could be adapted for another topic to suit your own class requirements.

This would take most students approximately three to four lessons to work through.

Cars database and queries (2007)

Here is an Access database based on cars. It contains 70 records.

There is an accompanying question sheet which will enable you to check whether students understand datatypes, validation rules and how to write a query in order to extract information from a database.
