9. Multiple camera views
This is a new feature of digital televsion services and it applies especially to sports events such as live car racing or tennis.
The viewer is able to view the event from a number of camera viewpoints. For example, during a live car race, they may be able to select a drivers view, or a favourite corner view or the main feed.
The impact of multiple camera views on viewers, broadcasters and TV companies:
Viewer
---
Viewer can choose what he wants to see from different points of view
They feel more involved with the sporting event
Less likely to get bored as they can 'play' witht the cameras and enjoy the event more.
If they are looking with one camera, they may miss an event that was only be seen on another one
Broadcaster
---
It has to provide enough bandwidth to offer these extra feeds for the channel
There needs to be co-ordination with normal advertising on all camera views.
Television company
---
The director of a live event has less control of what the viewer sees
Need to make sure that all the cameras are 'in-action' throughout the event. Normally if there is a problem with one camera, the director switches to another one
There could be undesired event on one camera that should not go out on air.
Intractivity like this may increase the audience size.
